Deal for Danny Butterworth remains possible as Ian Holloway has to decide on risk-reward balance before transfer deadline

Whether or not the Town boss wants to take a risk on Butterworth after so long out, after he and the club have already invested in a player working his way back from a lengthy injury in the shape of Harry Smith, remains to be seen.

Danny Butterworth’s future at Swindon Town has still to be decided, with the midfielder continuing to push for a contract in Wiltshire after his long-term injury.

Butterworth was invited to train with the Robins in pre-season, as he looked to make his way back from two hamstring surgeries in four months last term.

With Swindon still obliged to pay him a wage until the end of July, it made sense on the part of both player and club. And Butterworth even joined Town on their trip to Alicante.

However, Town’s obligations to Butterworth – from a financial perspective at least – ended last month.
