Joel McGregor has never shied away from the first-team challenge, it's time to give him a run in the starting XI

McGregor started three games in the final throes of last season, and was equally as dynamic. His full debut, in defeat at Walsall in April, proved to be utterly undaunting to a player who has made the step up from the academy with assuredness.

It took Joel McGregor little more than an hour to get Swindon Town head coach Mark Kennedy questioning his own thought process when it comes to selection, and rightly so.

The teenage right-back came off the bench midway through the first half at Tranmere Rovers to produce a performance which really ought to secure his first start under Kennedy, when Harrogate Town visit the Nigel Eady County Ground this weekend.

McGregor is just 18, but the directness, physicality, energy and pace that he offered Swindon down the right flank at Prenton Park was refreshing, and for much of the second half appeared to be the most likely route to Swindon winning the game.
