Swindon Town's recent history has shaved fans' emotional fuses... but reaction to Colchester draw was still excessive

That those pockets of supporters deemed it necessary to boo in that instance, given the context of the game within the season, and the form of the opposition, speaks oh so loudly to the scars of the past decade.

This is the reality of an abused fanbase; a fanbase which has seen far more than its fair share of feeble football and off-field trauma over the past 10 years.

It is the reality of a fanbase that has too often been the hapless and unwitting victim of boardroom scrapes and battles of ego.

The recent history of Swindon Town has worn supporters’ emotional fuses so thin that even the most innocuous of sparks can be a pretty major fire risk.

And so we come to moments like Saturday afternoon, when a team sitting joint top of the league was booed off the pitch by some fans, after holding a side with an October record of played three, won three, scored 11 to a stalemate at the County Ground.
