For now, we have to deal with the reality. And there is a cold truth to what has just happened. In 2026, Swindon were the architects of their own downfall, yet they spent far too much time trying to attribute blame to others.

It’s a hollow feeling, isn’t it?

An empty, vacant sort of emotion. Not anger, necessarily. And not hurt, either.

That the signposts had been laid out for some weeks probably helped. After all, Swindon Town have been flapping about like a marooned trout since Easter.

So this was, in a way, expected. We had prepared ourselves for it. We came to the County Ground in our numbers having already digested the reality of the situation. We knew it would take a considerable changing of the winds to blow Swindon over the line.
