It’s time to get real.
There are worrying parallels already between the rhetoric emanating from the County Ground dressing room today, and the soundbites I was given as a cub reporter during the doomed 2010/11 campaign.
Back then, despite all the evidence on and off the field pointing in the other direction, players and staff emphasised Swindon Town squad’s capacity to chase a playoff place well when it was reasonable to do so.
And, as history shows, that team – made up of several who had played at Wembley the previous May – slipped into League Two with barely a flicker of resistance.
