What is Clem Morfuni getting out of his ownership of Swindon Town?

He regularly, nay routinely fields a blunderbuss barrel’s worth of criticism, much of it well placed, some of it a little more conspiratorial. He does not come from a football background, nor does he appear to have long ties to the sport beyond fandom. He lives on the other side of the world. Why persist, then?

What is Clem Morfuni actually getting out of his involvement with, and investment in Swindon Town?

It’s a question I’ve been asking myself, and been asked by others, quite a lot lately. And with good reason.

Morfuni has been associated with Town for nine years. He’s been the outright owner for three. He’s sacked two managers, seen another two walk, and watched on as his club have drifted from sixth to 10th to 19th in the bottom tier of the EFL. Today, it sits 23rd.

He is the man who presided over the worst league finish in the living memory of most Swindon fans. He has nominally put between £8million and £9m in loans into the club, without any sort of financial return.
