Acceptance of reality can bring fans and players together in Swindon Town's fight to keep EFL status

Football fans respond to calls for togetherness when they can identify with the cause. Right now, very few identify with the notion that Swindon can somehow conjure up a promotion challenge.

Can you deal with a dose of reality?

Defeat at MK Dons on Saturday leaves Swindon just a point above the League Two relegation zone.

The average number of points needed for survival in this division over the past 10 full seasons is 43.4. We’ll optimistically round down to 43. Town still need 31 to get there, from 31 games, at one point per game.

Over the past 31 League Two matches, the Robins have collected 29. Now, admittedly that straddles two seasons and takes in the efforts of two completely different sets of players. But it is a trend that would be entirely foolish to overlook.
