Swindon Town will not run a women’s development squad in 2026/27, as the club looks to future-proof its pathway.

The decision to suspend operations came following an end-of-season review, with Swindon preparing for life at a new level after promotion to the Women’s National League Southern Premier Division last term.

That review, conducted jointly by the club’s board and first-team manager Richard Wood, identified a gap between the development squad and the senior group which had “grown significantly”, according to a club statement.

The Moonraker understands that members of the squad were notified about the decision earlier this month via email, and that the news came as a surprise to those impacted.
