Swindon Town are close to naming Mark Kennedy as the club’s new head coach.

Sources have told The Moonraker that Kennedy has held constructive talks with senior figures at the County Ground in recent days, and a formal announcement is expected next week.

He is believed to be connected to Swindon’s mysterious minority shareholder Chris Kiely through his father Dean, with whom he played international football for the Republic of Ireland.

The former Wolves and Manchester City winger is largely regarded by fans of his recent clubs as being a proponent of attritional football.
