Swindon Town add Harry Smith back into squad submitted to EFL as striker sets goal of returning this season

The suggestion that Smith is thinking about a return in 2025/26 is an interesting development, because of the steps taken by the club last year after his initial diagnosis.

Harry Smith is targeting a return to Swindon Town action at the end of this season, with Ian Holloway hinting that he is ready to hand the striker a new contract.

Smith is recovering from a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament, suffered in August, and was initially expected to miss the whole season.

His rehabilitation was scheduled to take long enough for Swindon to remove the striker from the official squad list which they formally submitted to the EFL at the end of the summer transfer window.

And the general assumption has been that Town fans would not see Smith in Swindon red again until 2026/27 – if he were to be offered fresh terms at the County Ground.
