New blow for Danny Butterworth as hamstring tear to sideline midfielder for majority of short-term contract at Swindon Town

Butterworth, who had previously complained of tightness in the same hamstring, has now been diagnosed with a grade two tear. That's a month and a half, at minimum, for the 27-year-old to sit out.

Danny Butterworth has suffered another hamstring setback, which could rule him out of action for the remainder of his short-term contract with Swindon Town.

Butterworth was given a five-month deal at the County Ground at the end of the summer transfer window, as manager Ian Holloway looked to give him more time to continue his recovery from significant injury issues.

The midfielder underwent two separate operations on the same hamstring last season after rupturing the muscle during a game at Accrington Stanley in October 2025.

He briefly returned to training in mid-to-late winter, but the hamstring ruptured again and the surgery had to be repeated.
