If Swindon Town are going to win promotion to League One this season, they will have to do so without Gavin Kilkenny.
With three games remaining of the regular campaign, Town are four points off top-three pace, and their chances of closing the gap have been reduced further by news that their pivotal playmaker is out for the rest of the term.
Kilkenny picked up an injury in training last week, and scans have determined that the issue – believed to be related to the medial ligament in one of his knees – will need two months’ recovery time.
That means the Irishman only returning in early June. The League Two playoff final is scheduled for May 25.
