You’ve heard of the ghost goal, well now we’ve seen potentially the first ever instance of a ghost substitute.

A run-of-the-mill EFL Trophy knockout game between Luton Town and Swindon Town may just have created the sort of pub quiz question that will delight eggheads and football curio fanatics for years to come.

The teamsheets provided to media at Kenilworth Road, and the so-called ‘official teamsheet’, bore Ryan Tafazolli’s name among the Swindon substitutes instead of Aaron Drinan’s.

Yet the matchday squad graphic published by Swindon had the Irishman listed on the bench.
