Ian Holloway's 'bit of Aussie' helped win over Clem Morfuni, with new Swindon Town recruitment model here to stay

The switch of model, away from a director of football and towards a more old-fashioned structure with Holloway at its head, has been a considerable shift.

“A bit of Aussie” in Ian Holloway has played a pivotal role in winning the ear and respect of chairman Clem Morfuni.

Holloway was appointed as Swindon Town manager on a six-month contract in late October.

After a difficult start, he has helped revive Town’s season, and the Robins now sit 15th in League Two – 10 points off the playoffs and 15 clear of the relegation zone.

Holloway had only met Morfuni once – at a charity event at Melksham Town in 2021 – prior to being offered the job at the County Ground. And, given the majority shareholder is based in Australia, in-person meetings between the pair have been rare.
