Freddie Hoare to claim Swindon Town record once held by Paul Rideout when he starts against Newport County

At 16 years and 15 days, Hoare will take the record from Abu Kanu, who was 16 years and 77 days old when he started for Town against Crystal Palace Under-21s in the EFL Trophy on August 30, 2022.

Before Kanu, the record had stood for more than four decades. Paul Rideout was 16 years and 107 days old when he made his Swindon debut against Hull City in November 1980. Rideout went on to become one of the most successful products of Town’s youth system, playing in the top flight for Aston Villa, Southampton and Everton, as well as spells with Bari in Italy and Rangers in Scotland.
