Speaking to The Moonraker, Trust vice-chair James Phipps recognised the general reaction to the announcement but was still keen to point reasons why an initiative such as Fair Game is useful for EFL fans.

The Fair Game Index’s contested ranking of Swindon Town is a good example of why an independent regulator is necessary for football.

That’s the view of Trust STFC, whose vice-chair James Phipps has told The Moonraker that Swindon’s high score makes sense on paper, but lacks nuance or a detailed outlook on the state of play at the club.

The Fair Game Index is a ratings matrix which considers, in its founders’ own words, financial sustainability, good governance, fan engagement, and equality standards.

Despite all its troubles over recent months, and increasing supporter dissent, Swindon ranked fifth in League Two upon the most recent unveiling of the FGI standings earlier this week.
