Harry Smith almost did not start the defeat at Walsall on the first day of Swindon Town’s League Two season, after suffering a back spasm.

The striker was named in the starting XI for the fixture at the Bescot Stadium, and ultimately completed 90 minutes as Town somehow contrived to lose 2-1 against a side that played more than 75 minutes with 10 men.

However, the frontman came very close to missing out entirely, following an incident in the warmup.

Manager Ian Holloway said: “In the warmup, something happened to his back. A bit of a spasm. It looked like he wasn’t going to start.
