Ian Holloway reflects on mad first taste of the County Ground: "I almost got sent off before I started"

Holloway’s movements became a sideshow of their own during a first half in which Gillingham took the lead, as he tried to find a vantage point that both gave him a good view of the action and allowed him to be in close enough proximity to the Swindon bench.

Ian Holloway has suggested he was at risk of being sent off before he even started work as Swindon Town manager, after becoming the focus of officials’ frustration during the draw with Gillingham.

Holloway was appointed in the role on Friday (October 25) but, with his formal first day earmarked for Monday (October 28), he attended the game at the County Ground as a guest.

Within 10 minutes, however, he was scaling the low walls of the Arkell’s Stand and barking instructions to interim head coach Gavin Gunning and goalkeeper coach Steve Mildenhall, following the dismissal of Grant Hall.
