Swindon Town have confirmed they took advantage of a clause within the EFL’s financial fair play rules to help balance the playing budget.

Town were close to their Salary Cost Management Protocol cap towards the end of the summer window, after splashing out on two senior players – Ryan Tafazolli and Ollie Palmer.

In order to lighten the load, and as reported at the time by The Moonraker, the administrative staff looked into using clause 17 of appendix C of the SCMP guidelines, which allows clubs to write off injured players for the duration of the relevant accounting period.
