Swindon Town turned down the chance to face a Premier League side at the County Ground this pre-season, The Moonraker understands.

The Robins had the option to face a top-tier side a week before the start of the League Two campaign, though the identity of the team in question is unclear.

Senior figures in the football department at Town preferred to give the squad a fixture which would provide a more realistic and competitive challenge ahead of the first game of the term, at Chesterfield on August 9.
