Three quarters of County Ground deemed safe for start of new home season... but Stratton Bank still requires work

The work necessary to allow Swindon to open the usual three stands to fans for the visit of Cambridge United on Saturday (August 9) was finished in time, and at a meeting on Friday morning (August 8), the council gave the event the green light to go ahead.

The County Ground has been passed fit for general use this weekend after Swindon Town completed various pieces of council-mandated safety work.

Swindon Borough Council had instructed the club to make an array of upgrades and updates following an audit by the local authority’s Event Safety Advisory Group (ESAG) in late June.

These included fire safety work, roof repairs, the establishment of a backup control room, the installation of lighting protection systems, repair work to two gates, and the undertaking of a legionella risk assessment.
