Now that's what a promotion contender looks like: Outclassed Swindon Town can learn plenty from Notts County defeat

Their 10th game in 36 days came at the home of the most creative team in the division, with a squad creaking and wheezing under the strain of a series of injuries and niggles.

Ultimately, the trip to Notts County was one hurdle too many for Swindon Town over the festive period.

Their 10th game in 36 days came at the home of the most creative team in the division, with a squad creaking and wheezing under the strain of a series of injuries and niggles.

It was far from the Robins’ worst performance of the campaign, but it showed the gulf between where this group is at now and where it needs to be to compete for promotion – despite the recent improvement under Ian Holloway.

Frankly, using the P word in any article at this point seems absurd. Town are one place above the relegation zone in the EFL’s bottom tier. Even if the gap to 23rd is currently four points, the situation remains delicate.
