After Harry Smith suffered a major knee ligament injury on Tuesday, the group were left with Thursday and Friday to enact a full-on tactical U-turn.
Without Smith, the long channel balls and lengthy diagonals were simply never going to work (admittedly, there are very legitimate suggestions they weren’t working anyway).
In a few hours, this group had to refocus and repurpose. They had a few hours to bench the systems of the past two months, and produce a coherent, cohesive, and effective performance.
