Swindon Town need Ollie Clarke at the heart of the run-in: Time to let the defenders defend

ANALYSIS: Clarke's impact is way too valuable to voluntarily leave out. While the skipper is competent enough in the back three, it is immediately obvious that Town lose presence and energy when he is not in midfield.

Ollie Clarke has been used as a jack of all trades for the past 14 months.

At various times, Clarke has been asked to play right centre-back, left centre-back, sweeper, holding midfielder, an aggressive number eight and, once, on the right of a front three.

For the run-in, there is only one place Swindon Town need their captain: right at the heart of everything.

It was with Clarke in central midfield against Bristol Rovers on Saturday that the Robins were coherent, coordinated and, for a short while, convincing.
