Swindon Town must be up for the fight to beat tenacious Accrington... and set-piece fragility will be tested once again

TACTICS: There are signs Accy are vulnerable from quick transitions, particularly long diagonals picking out forward runners on the opposite flank. It will be interesting to see if Gavin Kilkenny and Will Wright, the two Swindon players with the largest passing ranges in the Town squad, are given direction to this effect.

Seven days after defeat at MK Dons, Swindon Town face a very different League Two beast when they venture to Accrington Stanley.

Whereas the Dons are a team designed to be effective in possession, Accrington make their mark when they don’t have the ball.

While MK are third in the League Two possession table for 2024/25 so far (with more than 60% of the ball), Stanley sit 18th (45.36%). For context, Swindon sit between the two in 10th (50.13%).

Accrington are set up to win the ball. Expect midfield congestion on Saturday, with the hosts preferring to line up in narrow defensive formations, and contain opposition in tight spaces before attacking with pace out wide.
