Swindon Town could have broken Miguel Freckleton... instead, the experience might be the making of him

There is not a player in the Town squad that better symbolises the change in environment in that dressing room in 2025 than the 21-year-old defender. And his performance against MK Dons illustrated why.

The game was a moot point, in more ways than one. But there was one unmissable takeaway from Swindon Town’s final-day bore draw with MK Dons: the extraordinary transformation of Miguel Freckleton.

There is not a player in the Town squad that better symbolises the change in environment in that dressing room in 2025.

Freckleton had never played EFL football prior to joining Swindon on loan from Sheffield United, and he made a slow start to life at his new level, with a handful of notable mistakes failing to endear him to his new supporters in Wiltshire.

A nightmarish moment at Port Vale, which laid on the hosts’ second goal, preceded difficult scenes after the game, during which Freckleton was visibly upset by the criticism emanating from some travelling Swindon fans.
