After a World Cup summer, this was our football-watching experience coming back down to earth with the velocity and impact of a piece of NASA space junk.
Northampton Town versus Swindon Town was uncomfortable viewing. Not for any particularly nefarious reason; it was just very hard to shake the feeling that doing almost anything else would have been a better use of a sunny Saturday afternoon.
Sitting through those disjointed 90 minutes felt a little like sitting through the village am-dram butchering A Midsummer Night’s Dream: objectively crap, but out of affection you’ll default to finding small mercies.
