Gladiators, ghosts and a game of great importance: The route to three crucial points against Morecambe

TACTICS: Holloway spent Thursday morning inside the sports hall at Beversbrook: not hiding from apparitions but walking his players through a shape exercise. He feels he is starting to get an idea of where his team’s defensive structure is falling apart.

Gladiators, ghosts, and a game of great importance: the result of a wet and windy afternoon at the Nigel Eady County Ground this Saturday could have a big impact on the League Two relegation battle.

Morecambe do not score many goals. And the goals they have scored largely do not come from open play.

The Shrimps are one of only two teams in League Two this season to have a majority of their goals come from set-pieces. The other? Carlisle United, who did so twice at the County Ground in September.

Swindon Town, meanwhile, have conceded nine times from dead-ball situations – the second worst record in the division. It’s a trend not lost on Holloway.
