And so it's come to pass that, somehow, a game against Accrington Stanley in late September will carry an exaggerated degree of importance.
That's the feeling shared by much of the Swindon Town community, including the manager, after the Robins' fourth successive defeat, a 2-0 loss at home to Newport County in the EFL Trophy.
But are we getting a little carried away? Is this situation entirely the fault of one person, or is it a symptom of much wider reaching problems?
Whatever the answer, whatever your position, it is quite something that this club and its fan base finds itself yet again in all sorts of bother.
