Swindon lost to Crewe Alexandra
Matchday

Fears of the Town: Crewe defeat shows how aware Swindon are of their own fallibility in League Two promotion push

ANALYSIS: Maybe it would be easier if mediocrity was the default setting. That way, there would never be a sense of ‘what if’. Perhaps those moments of excellence have inflated our expectations to unmanageable levels.

The atmosphere at the final whistle summed up the sentiment in the fanbase.

After all the rallying cries, Swindon Town lost their collective voice when it mattered most, succumbing to a Crewe Alexandra team that bided their time and took their chances on the most frustrating of frustrating afternoons at the County Ground.

It was a dull exhale that greeted the end of the game: seven-thousand sighs; seven-thousand slaps of the forehead; seven-thousand pairs of hands quickly flicking to their preferred sports news app to find all the hard work of Tuesday night had been quickly undone.

Defeat at the hands of a busy and buoyant Crewe side was hardly ignominious, and on reflection Swindon were certainly not at their worst.
