We all know one, don’t we? Even if we don’t like to admit it. That family member you really don’t want at the wedding, or the big birthday party. Or Christmas lunch.

But ‘they’re family’, so the invite is sent. Their presence is tolerated; they’re afforded attention cursory enough not to take away from the rest of the event but not so meagre that they feel affronted.
