Swindon Town's huff and puff was more of an asthmatic wheeze at Walsall... luckily, there are still 45 games to go

ANALYSIS: The performance was a considerable downer for the 2,000-plus Town fans who made the trip. Not enough of a downer to justify chucking a plastic seat at a bloke just trying to his job, mind, but still considerable.

It was a tale of the unstoppable and the unexplainable on the opening day, as the pre-season optimism at Swindon Town was dealt a blunt dose of reality.

Evan Weir’s stunning free-kick and one of the worst pieces of defending you are likely to see from an EFL side combined to give Walsall victory, despite the Saddlers playing for more than 75 minutes with 10 men.

The performance – slovenly in the first half, disjointed in the second – was a considerable downer for the 2,000-plus Town fans who made the trip to the West Midlands.
