The talented Mr Ripley: Why Swindon Town's goalkeeper might be one of the most valuable commodities in League Two this term

ANALYSIS: The goalkeeper's glaring mistake against Rotherham was a painful reminder that nobody is infallible. But 14 games into the League Two campaign, Ripley's performances have been remarkable, and the numbers make a compelling case for his importance to Swindon Town.

Connor Ripley will have had better afternoons.

The Swindon Town goalkeeper's failure to collect a routine cross against Rotherham United, dropping the ball unchallenged onto an opponent's foot, was a blooper that once upon a time would have been automatic entries into cheap Christmas VHS compilations.

But goalkeepers have the rather unfortunate distinction of playing in a position where a single lapse in concentration can undo an afternoon's work, and Ripley's calamitous moment provided a fairly stark reminder of that particular occupational hazard.

However, it shouldn't obscure what has otherwise been an extraordinary start to the season.
