Remembering Andy King a decade on: Cigars, signature signings and that night at the Withdean

I remember seeing a half-dozen brown stubs strewn beneath King's seat; I remember the exaggerated body language every time one of his players misplaced a pass; I remember the grunts and groans and more than the odd curse word.

It is 10 years since the world of football lost Andy King.

My memories of the former Swindon Town manager, like the cigar smoke that so often billowed around his face, are somewhat hazy.

I was 13 when King began his first term of office at the County Ground and 18 when he completed his second and, with time, many of those years blurred into one.

From a footballing perspective, then, my assessment of him was warped by that burning love for the game only truly experienced by kids with eyes yet to be opened to reality's general grubbiness.
