Farewell to 2025: Swindon Town's annus mirabilis under Ian Holloway

Had 2025 been a League Two campaign, Holloway would have had Swindon promoted as champions. In 2026, they need to finish the job.

Farewell, then, 2025. You were very good to Swindon Town.

This year, Swindon won 52.17 per cent of their league matches, making it the club’s fifth most prolific 12 months of the past century.

Only Lou Macari’s Town teams of 1985 and 1986, Paolo Di Canio’s class of 2012, and the Harry Morris-inspired Robins of 1926 have managed better.

Ian Holloway might continue to say that he has achieved nothing at the County Ground, and in terms of the ultimate goal of promotion that is of course correct. But his rebuilding job in 2025 has been only slightly shy of miraculous.
