Darren Oldaker offered more than Swindon Town ever got to see... a move away was always going to be the end result

ANALYSIS: Oldaker was a victim of his own body language. His naturally languid style, and habit of delaying the pass, can give off the impression of laziness. Some fans could not see beyond it, and this was compounded when he began making mistakes.

Darren Oldaker came to Swindon with positive references from his time at Chesterfield.

His departure had at least in part been informed by a desire to be closer to the family home in Guildford, albeit he had begun to find first-time chances more limited with the Spireites.

Those who watched him at his previous club spoke of a fleet-footed playmaker, best used in an advanced midfield role, who popped up with useful dead-ball contributions.

In the early weeks of Swindon’s campaign, there were glimpses of just that.
